Tomato ketchup

I was watching this video and they are making seng1diam5 gio5zab4 hê5.

It reminded me of the origin of the English word ketchup. Did you know ketchup came from gio5zab4

seng1diam5 酸甜

sweet and sour

gio5zab4 茄汁

tomato ketchup

seng1diam5 gio5zab4 hê5

sweet and sour prawns

酸甜茄汁蝦

Gio5zab4 can also be translated as tomato sauce - where gio5 mean tomato and zab4 means sauce.

Tomato is called huang1gio5 nowadays. However, some Teochew living overseas call tomato as ang5mo5 gio5.

huang1gio5 番茄

ang5mo5 gio5 紅毛红毛
