This song was originally sung by 李小珍 Li Siao Diang who was from Indonesia and then moved to live in Singapore.  I heard an interview with Li Siao Diang and she said she was unable to read Chinese characters and she started singing Teochew songs with Indonesian Romanised Teochew. She then went to our homeland and studied how to sing Teochew songs and she learnt our Romanised Teochew while staying in our homeland.
