steamed bun 饅頭 breakfast, lunch and dinner

In this video you will hear how to say 饅頭 properly. The wife said it incorrectly as mang tao but the husband said it correctly as bhuang6tao5.

bhuang6tao5 饅頭馒头

steamed bun

饅頭馒头

I am taking issue with this is because Teochew Store uploaded a video and the person said mang tao 饅頭

Moreover, there are a few words which I think need to be discussed.

breakfast - the video said mên5za2 and omit the deng3 meaning a meal -

n5za2deng3 早頓早顿

zao3can1 早餐

Lunch - do you say lunch as rig8dao3?

rig8dao3 日晝|日昼

zhong1 wu3 中午

rig8dao3bung7 晝飯|昼饭

wu3can1 午餐

Dinner Does one really believe people say dinner as mên5am3?

I wonder why Teochew store has made these mistakes?

loh8teng1zin5 落湯糍|落汤糍

Loh8teng1zin落湯糍落汤糍 is a famous Teochew dessert. LLL nasal  but ZXS does not and I do. Please refer to LLL page 390 and ZXS second edition page 880.

You can see how this dessert is made in this video

There is a Chinese expression 百看不厭、百吃不膩 which means cannot get enough of something and from this expression, the chef said bêh4 ziah8 bug4 iam3  百食不厭 which means will not get bored eating in the beginning of the video.

One of the ingredients he said was huê1sên1 teng5 hung2 花生糖粉 sugared ground peanuts and we normally call peanuts [without shell] as dao7ring5 豆仁

We normally call sesame seeds ze1muan5 芝麻芝麻 as iu5muan5 油麻

He went on to talk about bang2hu1板麩|板麸 and tui5 hu1 槌麩|槌麸 which means to have been grounded using a wooden pestle.

What is interesting is that he said first as  sên先 and it suppose to be said as soin

He went on to use the word cib8 to mean knead and I have not seen the character for cib8.

It is interesting he calls a rolling pin 擀麵杖 as kioh4 min7 puê5 軋麵皮轧面皮  instead of kioh4 min7 gung3 軋麵棍轧面棍

He used lui5  and this is a standard Chinese word which means to pound with a pestle.

He then uses a uniquely Teochew word rih4  and in Mandarin is  which means to press.

Another uniquely Teochew word he uses is ti1  which means sticky.

I hope you have enjoyed watching this video and you have learnt a few Teochew words.
