I think all of us know that people from Teochew City speak Teochew with a wonderful accent. Do watch this video and the guy in red speaks with a beautiful Teochew accent. Not only does he speak with a Teochew accent, he also speaks Teochew beautifully, like the way my father told me how Teochew should be spoken.
The character's name is Ngou6nion5 五娘 but he says it as Ngou6niên5 i.e. with a Teochew City accent.
Furthermore, you will have noticed that the subtitles have written kao2bêh4 考伯 and you may think it could be something about testing one's uncle. Actually, it suppose to be written as 摳擘 meaning to worry about something. It is a uniquely Teochew word not used by Mandarin.
kao1bêh4 摳擘|抠擘 |
to worry about something |
cao1xin1 操心 |
Kao1 means to dig and bêh4 means to pull open with one's hand, like the way one has to pull open a pomelo. I suppose you know how to say pomelo in Teochew!
