Measure Word ziah4 隻

Which measure words [classifiers] do I like the best? There are two which I think every Teochew should know and these are ziah4 隻 and coh4 撮.

The lady in this video is referring to the bangle she is wearing given to her by her husband Guah'De 割豬 and she said ziah4 muêh8 bhuang7 ghua7 ngeng5 隻物萬外銀 and it means this one costs more than 10,000 Yuan and in Mandarin it would be said as 這個一萬多塊.

In an earlier post, you learnt in one of Teochew Store videos Basic Teochew VIII that this one is said as zi2gai5 and now you can learn ziah5 muêh8 which has the same meaning.

zi2gai5 衹個

zhe4ge5 這個

Do notice that we Teochew omit the ONE as in zêg8 and we do not say zêg8 bhuang7 一萬 like in Mandarin.

And the rest of the differences between the two Chinese languages are seen clearly in the table above.

I hope this helps you to understand Teochew a little better. If you have any other questions, please ask in the comment section.
