I have been looking for the character for squeeze or to press down in Teochew. You can hear the chef saying dên6 in this video. None of my Teochew dictionaries has listed the dên6 character. I have used the same character as what Mogher has used.
dên6 榨 |
to squeeze, to squeeze out, to press |
ya1bian3 壓扁|压扁 |
We have other words to mean press and these are rih4 襵 dêh4 壓 and iab4 壓
However, as for squeeze we say dên6.
In that clip in the above video, the chef said so1 in5 dên6 bin2 挱丸榨扁
So why did the subtitles in the video write in5 as 圓 ? 圓 means round and 丸 means little round balls. Both of these two characters are homophones and too many of our people in homeland get confuse between these two characters. During Winter Solstice Festival, our people often write ziah8 in5 as 食圓 and they should have written 食丸 .
The chef could have said rih4 instead of dên6 and these two words have the same meaning.
bin2 means flat
If you have seen the dên6 character, please share in the comment section below.
