lui1 鐳 money

It is often said that lui1 鐳 which means money is said by Teochew people in SE Asia with its origin from the Malay word duit. I have no idea how duit can become lui1. Duit sounds like "do it" to me!

Please watch this video and you can hear people in this drama using the word lui1 and the lady said 一兩一百鐳  zêg8 nio2 zêg8 bêh4 lui1- one teal one hundred copper coins and lui1 is 銅錢 in Mandarin.

Technically, in Teochew, the lady should have said 個兩百鐳  gai2 nio2 bêh4 lui1 but the lady spoke in Mandarin Teochew.

Do you still think lui1 is derived from duit or do you think our ancestors in our homeland had already used the word lui1 for the copper coins?
