Song My homeland in Romanised Teochew Plus Translation

I have written out the Romanised Teochew for the song that my homeland is in Teochew

I will supply a vocabulary list soon so one can learn our mother tongue more effectively.

As you read my posts, I hope you are getting use to the Romanised Teochew. Do not worry if you do not get it right. It took me years to know how to write Romanised Teochew accurately. One just have to respect the Romanised Teochew provided for us like the way we respect HanYu PinYin and then one can write it out properly.

My roots are in Teochew.

Ngou Nion Dang San is an ancient folklore, belonging to the legendary work of the Ming Dynasty in China. It originated from Hokkien and Teochew.

During Emperor Yongle reign, it was mainly in the form of scripts, and the scripts were all written in Hokkien and performed in dramas .

The beautiful legends widely spread in eastern Canton (now Teochew, Swatow, Jieyang, Shanwei) and southern Hokkien began with historical stories and later it evolves into an opera, and the story of opera makes folklore more legendary.   The words in the text are written in a mixture of Teochew and Hokkien, which can be said to be the earliest Hokkien Teochew language publication.

The play was repeatedly banned by the Chinese government due to the conflict between free love story of Lai Jing Ji and the marriage of a traditional Chinese parent- led matchmaker , but it was still widely welcomed by the people.

On November 11, 2014, the legend of Ngou Nion Dang San was approved by the Chinese State Council and is now included in the National Cultural Heritage List .
