There is a Mandarin expression “sa1jiao1 撒嬌|撒娇” and if you were to watch this video, you
would understand the Mandarin term sa’jiao.
It could be described as a lady behaving in a coquettish manner or being flirtatious with a man.
So how do we say this type of behaviour in
Teochew Uê?
We say this type of behaviour as iao1riao5 妖嬈|妖娆 and
there is a song which has a line “rig8mên5 iao1riao5 si3suan2
ke3 日暝妖嬈四散去|日暝妖娆四散去” which could be translated as “flirting,
going wildly all over the place day and night”. You can hear this line in this video.
An entry for the word iao1riao5
can be found in Zhang Xiao Shan’s second edition dictionary on page 486.
