Cold

Besides ngiang5 凝 there is another Teochew word which describes “cold”.  It uses this character 凍｜凍。

This character 凍｜凍 can be said as dong3 or dang3.

Let us see some examples.

dong3	凍｜凍	to shiver with cold
sang1ciu3 lo2 dong3
隻手裸凍。｜只手裸凍。
Both hands are shivering with cold.
The character lo2 is shown in Zhang Xiao Shan 2nd Ed dictionary on page 809 and the Mandarin正在 to show an action in progress i.e. in the middle of doing something.

撮水凍凍。｜撮水冻冻。
The water is very cold.

However, we also use some Mandarin words as well.

dong3seng1	凍霜｜冻霜	frozen, to deep freeze
dong3si2	凍死｜冻死	to freeze to death

All Mandarin words said in Teochew with the character 凍｜凍 is said as dong3 including this Cantonese word.

Currently, we are in the middle of summer and the temperature outside is 13^o C and this is not said as ngiang5 or dong3 or dang3 but is said as liang5.
