Before equality in China, some 70 years ago, girls did not go to school and in order for them to be able to read and write, their mothers would teach them songs which they would sing from a song book which is called gua1cêh4 歌冊｜歌册. [gua1 means a song and cêh4 means a book]
The Chinese government views our Teochew Song Book as a
national treasure and regards this as an important element of our culture and our Song Book now preserved as a national treasure since 7th June 2008.
