I was watching a Mandarin drama last evening and they were using the term dang5liao5 同僚 to mean colleagues. Our Teochew word for colleagues is 同寅 dang5ing5.
I was curious to investigate this liao5 as in dang5liao5 because
it made me remember 雞寮｜鸡寮 goi1liao5, a chicken run.
It turns out that the liao5 in colleagues and the liao5 in
goi1liao5 are the same liao5! I think this is so funny that I had to share this
with you. That is to say another way to write 僚 is 寮。
