However, you hear some Teochew people living in SE Asia saying it as pang5gêng2 and let us consider why these people have mispronounced this word. I suggest it is because of Hokkien influence.

Some Hokkien people say room as pâng-keng and Hokkien people inTaiwan say it as pâng-king and you can see how the “i” can easily turn into an “ê” due to local accent.
