Key word for this post – hib4

hib4

See below.

What is interesting is that in Zhang Xiao Shan’s 2nd Ed dictionary page 682, it describes hib4 as 燃燒 which means to ignite, to combust or to burn and we Teochew people know that this is not the meaning of hib4. In CZYZD it describes hib4 as 悶熱 which means hot and stuffy and this is one of the meanings of hib4 and we say:

bang5goin1 guê3 hib4

房間過熻|房间过熻

The room is very hot and stuffy.

The other meaning of hib4 is described on the website as 把東西閉封在鍋裡 , 用適量的水煮成蒸汽把食物蒸熟 to put items in a closed pot, use an appropriate amount of water to cook with steam until the food item is cooked.

However, the third meaning is used by the lady in the video and not described in this website video, which is to let the residue heat finish cooking the steamed bun.
