There is a Mandarin word shi3bu5de5 使不得 means “cannot or must not do something” and the Teochew word is bhoi6sai2 𠁞使|𠀾使 and I have not heard bhoi6sai2 used by our people living in our homeland. They would just say mo2 孬。This word bhoi6sai2 is used by some Teochew people living in SE Asia.
Bhoi6sai2 𠁞使|𠀾使 has a similar meaning to bhoi6dig4 𠁞得|𠀾得。
The opposite of shi3bu5de5 is shi3de5 使得
which means “feasible, possible” is said in Teochew Uê as oi6sai2
會使|会使 or oi6dig4 會得|会得。
In this song, the young lad sung:
Ua2
ngên6houn2 oi6dig4 |
我硬否會得。|我硬否会得。 |
It
is definitely possible for me. |
This was first time I have heard oi6dig4 used by someone from
our homeland.
Be proud of our Teochew language which is several thousand years
old and use it proudly.
