I was looking for the nim3 character and I found this interesting expression in Zhang Xiao Shan's dictionary page 878 . . . tio3 bhi3 uan7 huang1ze5 糶米換番薯。粜米换番薯。and it means to sell rice to exchange it for sweet potatoes.
Anyone with more than two brain cells will know that this is not very logical.
With any Chinese saying, there is always another part which gives its meaning. The second part of the saying which is oi6hiao2 seng3 bhoi6 hiao2 de5 會曉算𠁞曉除。会晓算𠀾晓除。and this part of the expression describes someone who is clueless in financial management.
This is a Mang5nam5 閩南 expression and you know Teochew is part of Mang5nam5 in which there are eight different dialects in this group of MangNam Ghe 閩南語。There are Hoggiang Mangnam, Teochew and six others.
