guai1	乖	said of a child who is obedient and well-behaved
tian1uê7	聽話｜听话	said of a child who does what one is told

 

This means ghao5 dua7 could mean to grow up and:

be clever

be capable

be obedient and well-behave

or does what one is told

or all of the above

and for this reason I have not completed the above because I am not sure what goes inside the mind of an adult who uses a term like “ghao5 dua7” when speaking to a child.

Is the adult trying to manipulate the child psychologically to get the child to behave and listen to instructions or wishing the child to be clever, competent and able to ask difficult questions?

I want to look at some examples of use of ghao5 by some dictionaries.

And from the above examples, I hope you are able to realise that ghao5 is a bit more complicated than what the video has made it out to be by defining that ghao5 means clever and competent.
