Omission of gai5

There is an excessive use of gai5 amongst some Mandarin educated Teochew people. Look at the above examples, and you will notice that we omit gai5 in spoken Teochew. 

san1 ghuêh8 zion5  三月前	Three months previously	三個月前
san1 nang5 三人	Three people	三個人

It is like Mandarin – where we do not say 我的父親 but we say 我父親 for “my father” and the 的 is omitted. 

Similarly, gai5 is also omitted in some cases and it is therefore important not to do a direct Mandarin to Teochew translation.
